POLYMER NANOCOMPOSITES DEGRADATION AND FIRE CHARACTERIZATION

The aim of the Training Course is to gather European industrial researchers to provide them with fundamental knowledge on the theory of polymer thermo- and photo-degradation, fire resistance and life cycle analysis. The practical aspects will be addressed in specific laboratory training sessions.
Who should attend?
Participation is open to PhD and researchers from industry and academia.
Application fields that will benefit from the Short Course concern strategic industrial sectors which will enhance their competitiveness by using advanced technologies in thermal characterisation of nanostructured polymer and composite materials.

The language of the course will be English.
The course will consist of formal lectures and training in the laboratories; time for questions and discussion will be also available.
The events will begin at 9:30 on 10th October 2007 and end at 18 on 12th October 2007.

Second - third day – Practical session
The participants, divided into 4 groups (A to D, maximum 10 people each) will attend in turn three topics sessions: Thermal, Fire, UV exposure characterisation.
Techniques addressed on filled and blank samples
Thermal: DSC, TGA, TGIR, PYGCMS
Fire: CONE, LOI, UL
UV: characterisation of samples after Xenotest degradation
